SINP Document Translation Checklist: Originals, Translations and Translator Affidavits

Published:

For SINP documents that are not in English or French, applicants generally need a clear copy of the original, an English or French translation and a translator affidavit. The exact document list and translator rules depend on the SINP category. Review the current category checklist and OASIS instructions before ordering or uploading translations.

SINP applications can involve identity records, education, work experience, civil-status documents and category-specific evidence. Translation is only one part of the package, but missing originals, unreadable scans or an incomplete translator affidavit can create avoidable problems.

This checklist summarizes document-preparation steps from current Government of Saskatchewan guidance. Program requirements can change, and this article is not immigration advice.

Core translation package

Government of Saskatchewan guidance for multiple SINP categories states that a document not in English or French should be accompanied by:

  1. A clear copy of the original document.
  2. A copy of the English or French translation.
  3. A translator affidavit describing the translator's ability.

Some streams provide additional translator restrictions or refer to federal IRCC requirements. Always use the checklist for the category under which you are applying.

Step 1: Identify the correct SINP category

Do not build the translation package from a generic online list. Start with the current official checklist for your category. Different streams may request different evidence for:

  • identity and civil status;
  • education and training;
  • work experience;
  • licensing or professional eligibility;
  • settlement funds or business assets;
  • family members and dependants;
  • category-specific eligibility.

Translation Agency of Saskatchewan does not choose an immigration stream or determine eligibility.

Step 2: Collect complete original documents

Before translation, check that every required original is:

  • complete;
  • clear and easy to read;
  • scanned in colour when stamps or seals may matter;
  • shown on both sides when the reverse contains text or markings;
  • arranged in the correct page order;
  • accompanied by all schedules or attachments.

Do not crop seals, signatures, issue dates or document numbers. If handwriting or a stamp is unclear, provide a better image rather than typing a replacement.

Step 3: Match names and dates across the package

Review passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas and employment records before translation. Tell the translator if the same person's name appears with different spellings or transliteration systems.

The translation should reproduce the source accurately. A translator cannot change a source document to make different records match. A short instruction note can help the translator use an established passport spelling where appropriate while recording differences accurately. Our guide on consistent names and dates across translated documents covers this in more detail.

Step 4: Confirm the translator affidavit requirement

The SINP publishes a Translator Affidavit form and category guidance about who may translate documents. Restrictions can vary by stream. Government guidance commonly excludes the applicant's spouse, family members and a paid third party who prepared the application.

Send the exact category checklist with your documents if it names a specific translator or certification requirement. Do not assume that ATIS certification is mandatory for every SINP document unless the receiving instructions specifically require it.

Step 5: Keep each original, translation and affidavit together

The SINP OASIS User Guide instructs applicants to scan the original document, its English or French translation and the SINP Translator Affidavit as one document. Follow the current upload instructions shown in OASIS and the category checklist.

A clear file naming system can help, for example:

  • Passport_Name.pdf
  • Birth-Certificate_Name.pdf
  • Diploma_Name.pdf
  • Employment-Letter_Company.pdf

Avoid combining unrelated records into one oversized file unless OASIS specifically asks for that format.

Step 6: Review the completed package before upload

Check that:

  • every translated page has its matching original;
  • no page is missing or duplicated;
  • names and dates have been reviewed;
  • seals, stamps and handwritten notes are addressed;
  • the translator affidavit is included where required;
  • scans remain readable after file-size reduction;
  • the package follows the current OASIS and category instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Does every SINP document need translation?

Only documents that are not in English or French generally require translation. Confirm the complete document list in the current checklist for your SINP category.

Do I upload the original document too?

Yes. Current SINP guidance states that the original-language document should accompany the English or French translation and translator affidavit.

Can a family member translate my documents?

Government of Saskatchewan guidance for multiple SINP categories excludes spouses and family members. Review the rules for your exact category before choosing a translator.

Is an ATIS-certified translator required for every SINP document?

Not automatically. The required certification depends on the current SINP, IRCC or recipient instructions. Send the exact requirement for review before ordering.

Can you guarantee that SINP will accept the translation?

No translation provider can guarantee nomination, processing or acceptance. We prepare translations according to the documents and instructions supplied; SINP and IRCC make application decisions.
